Talk of the Trade: Bryce Acorn
Lighting, ice cream and complex commercial projects. What do these three things have in common? Bryce Acorn, Red Seal Journeyman Electrician, enjoys all of them.
Last March, Bryce told us a little bit about himself and his journey to becoming an electrician with Nichols Electric via Q&A. We learned that he’s always wanted to work in the trades, he loves living in Camrose and he enjoys working with his hands.
Many things have stayed the same for Bryce since then, but a lot has also changed (including a new baby on the way!) so we caught up with him again this summer.
Read this short follow-up Q&A to learn more about Bryce, how he’s grown as an electrician and what he loves about his work.
Since our last Q&A, how have you grown professionally and what does that growth mean to you?
Since then, I feel like I’ve become more self-assured at work. Working on more complex projects and figuring out ways to complete them has improved my confidence.
What’s one of your favourite projects the Nichols Electric team has worked on? What makes it stand out for you?
My favourite project that we’ve worked on recently is the Onoway Crop Management job. It’s the biggest project we’ve completed in a few years, and it was nice to have my hands on every aspect of the project — from start to finish.
What do you enjoy most about being an electrician?
What I enjoy most is finishing up a project, and the feeling I get when everything works. As for day-to-day tasks, I enjoy lighting. Whether it’s troubleshooting lights, replacing old lights or adding new ones, lighting always seems to make my day brighter.
Are there any local Camrose businesses, organizations or events that you’d like to give a shoutout too? What do they bring to the community?
I’d like to give a shout-out to OleO’s Ice Cream Castle. They keep my pregnant wife cool on hot days.
How will you be spending your time outside of work this summer?
My summer plans are to head out to the family cabin. I’ll be spending my time outdoors because our summers are just too short!
